This awe-inspiring bedrunner takes its inspiration from the legendary Tsungkotepsu shawl of the Ao Nagas—a textile of honor once worn by warriors and hunters to mark their courage, strength, and accomplishments. Every element in the Tsungkotepsu holds meaning: the mithun (the state animal of Nagaland) symbolizes wealth and pride; the spear and shield represent valor in battle; and the geometric lines and patterns signify order, resilience, and continuity of life. In this bedrunner, these age-old motifs are reinterpreted through lines and patterns, carrying the essence of the Tsungkotepsu into a form that can adorn contemporary spaces. The colors—red, black, and white—add their own story: red for courage and vitality, black for strength and depth, and white for purity and harmony. The piece is the result of the collaborative effort of three master weavers, each weaving a panel on the loin loom, a traditional backstrap loom of the Nagas. The panels were then carefully hand-stitched together, a process requiring both precision and patience to create a seamless and cohesive whole.
