Xaal Xuta
The hills of Northeast India are home to a rich tradition of handicraft, where each piece carries the essence of its maker and their land. Generations of artisans across all eight states of Northeast India have woven, carved, and shaped with their hands, carrying forward stories of their culture and heritage. Yet, much of this artistry remains unseen.
Our Mission
Our mission is to support artisans with fair wages, wider opportunities and recognition for their craft. Every piece we create sustains livelihoods, preserves cultural identity, and introduces homes across India and beyond to the untold stories of Northeast India.
Our Vision
We envision a future where the crafts of Northeast India stand proudly on the global stage, celebrated for their authenticity and soul. We believe in a future where the craftsmanship of the Northeast is recognized and revered worldwide, and we’re here to make that happen.
Our Founders
Jahnabi Hazarika’s Journey of Heritage and Heart
With over 25 years of rich and diverse experience in the global beauty and wellness industry, her career spans India and the Middle East, where she has led high-impact roles in Sales, Training, and Brand Leadership with renowned brands. She has also spent time as an educator, reflecting her deep passion for people, learning, and purpose-driven growth.
Whenever she draped herself in handwoven fabrics of Northeast India, she felt their quiet power. She knew this artistry was a treasure deserving of a wider stage. Determined to celebrate and elevate her region’s craft, Jahnabi envisioned a platform that would bring Northeast India’s textiles into the world’s luxury décor spaces — where craftsmanship meets contemporary elegance.
Aviroop Chandra’s Global Vision for Artistry
With over two decades of experience in home furnishings and brand management, Aviroop Chandra carried a global lens for design and craftsmanship. His journey took him across continents, from bustling international fairs to luxury markets, where he saw the world’s admiration for authentic craft and design.
However, despite the applause he witnessed abroad, he was struck by the stark reality — the treasures of Northeast India, the soul of its textiles and artistry, remained largely unseen and uncelebrated on the global stage.
Motivated by this realization, Aviroop sought to bridge the gap — to bring these exquisite, handwoven creations from the hills and weaving looms of Northeast India to the connoisseurs of luxury décor worldwide.
Together, They Plant a New Legacy — Xaal Xuta
United by their shared love for heritage and design, Jahnabi and Aviroop founded Xaal Xuta — a brand born out of passion, rooted in tradition, and destined for global recognition. Their mission: to honour Northeast India’s exquisite textiles with the reverence they deserve, transforming centuries-old artistry into luxurious, contemporary masterpieces for homes around the world.
From the quiet power of regional craftsmanship to the majestic accents of luxury décor, Xaal Xuta aims to give these treasured creations their rightful place celebrated, cherished, and woven into the tapestry of global design.
